Loquats are one of our favorites at the Hollywood Orchard. While loquats originate in southern China, they happen to thrive in Southern California as well, and the trees fill the canyons of Los Angeles with their luscious orbs of sweet fruit for a brief time every Spring.
Our local crop is ripe and ready, so we'll need volunteers both Saturday, April 24th and Sunday, April 25th to help pick and prepare. In order to stay safe in our activities we are especially looking for teams, families or members of the same pods that can work together. We will be limiting the number of volunteers at any given time and ask that everyone maintain physical distance from one another and wear masks while they pick. Let us know when you're available to help, and we'll let you know where you'll be picking.
For Sunday's prep, we'll be outdoors on the patio at Chez Amandes (aka Tom & Nancy's) at 2751 Pelham Place from 11AM - 4PM. Please bring your favorite paring knife and a mask.
We'll be making fruit leather and dried loquats, as well as prepping fruit to deliver on Monday to The Downtown Women's Center, A Place Called Home and My Friend's Place. The need for access to fresh and healthy food is greater than ever. Hollywood Orchard and all of our partner organizations are very grateful for your help in getting fresh local fruit to those who need it most.
Please let us know if you are interested in volunteering or if you have a tree you would like us to pick!
Can't pick but still want to help? We could REALLY use some extra hands to process the fruit on Sunday from 11AM - 4PM. Let us know if you're available to help! For Sunday's prep, we'll be outdoors on the patio at Chez Amandes (aka Tom & Nancy's) at 2751 Pelham Place. Please bring your favorite paring knife and a mask. For everyone's safety, attendance will be limited.
Please note: There is some possibility a film crew may come to document the loquat picking and prep. The crew will be masked and will keep a safe distant.
